I am definitely fan and sponsor for web communication platforms (i.e. Skype) and the use of social networks (i.e. Facebook, Twitter) in organizations. Improvements and efforts are needed for HR departments in order to balance face to face meetings with “technological communication”.
A risk that HR managers need to avoid is the individual isolation due to web-based communication. What do I mean? An individual, who stares at a computer screen all day long. An example? In many organizations managers are using Skype or other media instead of telephone calls or face to face meetings. Several times is noticeable an extreme: people in the same room only communicate through Skype. Then, organizations are not (yet?) complete digital environments ; for this reason it is important to “grab” clues, hints and elements from the in person interaction.
